  • What is the lead time for delivery of antennas
    I will normally pack the antenna on the day I receive the order or the following day. Shipping in the UK should then happen within 3 working days, possibly a day later for non-UK destinations. If delivery is likely to be delayed for any reason I will let you know as soon as possible and, if I am away, I will post a note on the website to indicate the impact on delivery times. If an item is out of stock then please contact me for an estimated re-supply time.
  • What is the power rating of the antennas
    The power rating is the maximum power handling capability of the antenna in Watts, Peak Envelope Power (PEP). In the UK this is the primary measure used by the licensing authority (Ofcom) to regulate the allowable transmission power for Amateur Radio users. The maximum for a full licence in the UK was 400W PEP which has recently increased to 1000W PEP and the Dual Beam Pro and I-Pro Home are offered in 2 versions with these power ratings. PEP is the maximum power delivered momentarily. However, the limiting factor for most equipment is the average power over a longer time period and for this we need to consider the duty cycle. For SSB the duty cycle is assumed at 20% and the maximum rating for other modes will need to be down rated accordingly. The following table shows the maximum power for 400W PEP and 1000W PEP using common transmission modes.
  • Do I need a rotator for the Dual Beam Pro
    The Dual Beam Pro is bidirectional in that it radiates 2 lobes at right angles to the main element. If you are happy beaming East and West, but are not too bothered about North and South then the antenna can be aligned appropriately and a rotator is not required. However, if you wish to beam in other directions at times then a rotator will ensure that you are getting the maximum transmit and receive power from the intended locations.
  • Can I convert the Dual Beam Pro to an I-Pro Home?
    Yes I can provide a kit of parts to do this for £20 + £4 shipping. The steps are: 1. Use the large 4 bolt clamp to connect the base support insulator (new part) to your ground post. 2. Attach the centre support arm (new part) to the centre GRP rod using a small clamp (new part). 3. Attach the matching transformer to the centre support arm using the 22-32mm jubilee clip (new part). 4. Remove the securing bolt from the end of the lower main element and attach the lower capacity hat element using a small clamp (new part). The I-Pro Home instructions can be downloaded here
  • What cable is recommended for the Dual Beam Pro
    A low loss coax such as our recommended RG Mini 8 Super XXD is ideal. The antenna design has been optimised for a cable length of 20-30m. Shorter lengths might make matching more difficult for some types of ATU. Longer lengths will make it easier for the ATU to match but will be less efficient.
  • I note that there is a minimum height of 1m above ground for the I-Pro Home but is there a maximum height?
    There is no maximum height for the I-Pro Home but the practicalities of lifting the antenna onto the ground post and guying it become more difficult if it is higher. There is little performance advantage in raising the height - it is more important ot keep the installation a reasonable distance from buildings.
  • What cable is recommended for the I-Pro Home?
    A low loss coax such as our recommended RG Mini 8 Super XXD is ideal. The antenna design has been optimised for a cable length of 20-30m. Shorter lengths might make matching more difficult for some types of ATU. Longer lengths will make it easier for the ATU to match but will be less efficient.
  • I have misplaced the connection instructions for the I-Pro Traveller
    Replacement instruction are available from the links at the bottom of the I-Pro Traveller product page.
  • I am seeing a good SWR but received signals are weak or non-existent
    A high loss coax will show a good SWR but will weaken received and transmitted signals. Check the coax for faults or water ingress and, if possible, measure the loss. If you are seeing more than 0.1dB per metre at 30MHz then it is worth looking to replace the cable.
